CLUB HISTORY
Pride of Holbeach Since 1929
CARTERS PARK - OUR HOME
The club plays at Carters Park, a ground with a unique origin. The land was not bought by the club but was bequeathed to the town by a local man named Mr. Carter in the mid-1920s.
For many years, the ground was shared with the local cricket club. This meant the football pitch only had three permanent sides enclosed; the fourth side was left open for the cricket outfield until the cricket club eventually folded.
In the late 1930s, a covered standing area was built next to the main stand. It became affectionately known by locals as "The Pig Pen". The club also famously used old Anderson shelters (WWII air raid shelters) to create covered standing areas for fans in the post-war years.
Record Attendance: 4,094 - set on 28th September 1955 for an FA Cup first qualifying round replay against local rivals Wisbech Town.
FAMOUS TIGERS
TESLIM BALOGUN
1957-58
A true legend of African football. Balogun was Nigeria's first professional footballer and later their first professional coach.
After playing for QPR in the Football League, he moved to Holbeach United. He is such an icon in his home country that the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria, is named after him.
JULIAN JOACHIM
2010-11, 2013
A former Premier League star who played for Aston Villa and Leicester City.
Known for his blistering pace, Joachim signed for Holbeach towards the end of his career, bringing top-tier pedigree to the United Counties League.
LEN RICHLEY
Manager, 1955
Under the management of ex-Crystal Palace player Len Richley, Holbeach United joined the Eastern Counties League where they stayed for seven seasons, competing against the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United's reserve sides.
DOMINIC GENOVESE
Manager, 1989-95
The next major success came under the management of Mr Dominic Genovese when the club won the Senior Cup in 1994/95 season and achieved the historic treble in 1989-90.
THE GLORY YEARS
1982 FA CUP RUN
This is widely considered the club's greatest adventure. Holbeach reached the FA Cup First Round Proper, a massive achievement for a non-league side.
They drew Wrexham (a Football League side at the time). The match generated so much interest it was moved to Peterborough United's London Road stadium. Holbeach sadly lost 4-0 to Wrexham, who went on to lose to eventual winners Tottenham in the 4th round, but the occasion remains legendary.
1989-90: THE TREBLE
The 1989-90 season was the club's "Invincibles" equivalent. They became the first club in history to win the UCL Premier Division, the League Cup, and the Benevolent Cup all in a single season.
2012-13: LEAGUE & CUP DOUBLE
The 2012/13 was one to remember in the history of "The Tigers". John Chand and his management led the club to their first league championship in ten years and retained the Lincolnshire Senior Cup - the first club to do so in ten years. Andrew Tidswell completed a treble of awards, securing the UCL golden boot with 35 goals in the season.
NATIONAL HEADLINES - 2015/16
In the 2015/16 season the club received national attention when their goalkeeper, Ricky Drury, scored a last minute bicycle kick equaliser against Worcester City in the FA Cup to send the tie to a replay.
